How do I get back on keto?

If you went off keto due to unhealthy habits, they are connected to the past, not the present.

To keep yourself in the present, keep a food log. On the left side of the page, write down everything you eat and drink. On the right side, write down your motivation for eating and drinking those specific items. This exercise keeps you conscious and aware of your choices.

Then focus on changing some of the motivations. Some obvious positive ones are eating for health and nutrients. But sometimes these aren’t enough on their own, because they may be missing the pleasure factor. If so, plan to keep some items like keto desserts on hand, as a healthier go-to comfort food.

You need to realize that the best way to mess up your metabolism is to go on and off of the program over and over. This confuses your metabolism. Your metabolism is living and dynamic, and it adapts to the foods you eat.

When you’re not consistent in doing keto and intermittent fasting, this can cause problems. What you could do:

Healthy Keto® diet

  • Keep the protein at a moderate amount (3 to 8 oz)

  • The slower the metabolism, the more you need to reduce your carbs; you may need to bring them down to 10 g per day

  • Lower the fat to no less than 75 g

  • Fast longer

  • Sleep more

  • Exercise

  • Reduce stress

It’s important to be consistent with this program. This way, you can take your body out of a state of confusion so that it can work with you instead of against you.
