How much alcohol would it take to cause early-stage liver disease?

In a study, it was found that 21 episodes of binge drinking—defined as consuming five or more drinks per occasion—showed signs of early liver disease. This amount of alcohol corresponds to slightly more than half an ounce of pure alcohol per drink, equivalent to a standard beer, glass of wine, or shot of liquor. Consistently engaging in this level of binge drinking can begin to cause early liver damage.
