Trouble with Keto?
I have sleep problems on keto. What do I do?
If you started on a ketogenic diet, you should know that this is temporary and will improve over time. During the transition phase as you keto-adapt you are switching to fat burning. Fat has more than double the potential energy storage mechanism, compared to carbs. So you are using a whole different fuel that has more energy and it’s causing the brain to be more awake. Carbs are more fatiguing and that’s why you feel sleepy after consuming them.
What you can do to resolve things that affect your sleep and transition faster is add more minerals (potassium), a lot more B vitamins, and more exercise each day to use up the energy.
Other things that can potentially cause sleeplessness on keto are too much coffee, not doing intermittent fasting, low calcium, bloating from kale, or waking up due to blood sugar fluctuations.
