I recently read that women aren't supposed to fast during the last week of their cycle because it can disrupt hormonal function. Is that true?

It only is true if you're nutrient deficient when you're fasting, going into the fasting or while you're fasting. This is why I always recommend taking supplements while you're fasting so you're not nutrient deficient because it's the deficiencies of the nutrients that can affect certain parts of your body. When you're fasting you make sure you get electrolytes, the B vitamins, omega-3, vitamin D, maybe some vitamin C, and trace minerals. And you'd be surprised how everything kind of works really nicely.
