Trouble with Keto?
I started to lose hair on keto. How do I fix that?
This could stem from not consuming enough nutrient-dense foods. If you have a very small meal without vital nutrients or a meal without nutrient-dense foods, it can cause hair loss.
The main nutrient you want to make sure to have enough of is protein. If you are consuming 3 oz per meal, try consuming 4 to 5 oz and see how you feel. If you consume 6 oz, increase it a bit to 8 oz.
Another reason for hair loss could be not consuming enough B vitamins, trace minerals, electrolytes or minerals. Make sure to provide your body with enough nutrients during a ketogenic diet.
Low stomach acid could prevent the absorption of protein and collagen needed for healthy hair growth and function. The clearest signs of low stomach acids are heartburn, bloating, gas or indigestion. To remedy it you can add apple cider vinegar and betaine hydrochloride to your diet.
Additional causes of this problem:
Biotin deficiency
Low vitamin D
Hormonal problems – cortisol, estrogen, insulin, menopause, thyroid or testosterone.
Antibiotics – destroy some of the microbes in your body and cause the body to make more of the unfriendly ones
Antacids – can cause you to lose the acidity of the stomach, thereby decreasing your ability to absorb proteins and collagen to feed your hair
Aging – stomach acids decrease with age, reducing your ability to absorb proteins and collagen for your hair
Junk food
Stress/anxiety
Stomach/gut problems
Lack of bile
Lack of friendly bacteria in the gut
Small intestines
