Keto Diet Facts & Tips
Is “gluten-free” keto?
No, gluten-free doesn’t necessarily mean low-carb. There are gluten-free products that can kick you out of ketosis due to high sugar and high carb content.
Many doctors and nutritionists believe that gluten is harmful and a person should try to avoid it. However, just because something is gluten-free, that doesn’t mean it’s not going to raise your insulin. For example, a grain product like wheat flour might be gluten-free, but it’s still going to affect your blood sugars because it has refined carbs.
Gluten-free grains are better than grains with gluten. But it’s important to consume a low-carb diet (20 to 50 g of carbs per day). A person could consume gluten-free grains in small amounts as long as they stuck to having only 20 to 50 g of carbs per day.
