Symptoms, conditions and causes

What are the causes for high androgens?

Androgens are male sex hormones that are also present in women in small amounts. If you have too many androgens the imbalance can cause a lot of side effects and should be remedied.

  • High androgens in women:

    • facial hair

    • hair loss

    • PCOS

    • deep voice

  • High androgens in men:

    • hair loss

    • prostate cancer

    • prostate enlargement

Cause #1: Conversion to DHT

There is one type of enzyme (protein that breaks down and converts things in the body) that converts testosterone to DHT. DHT is a more powerful form of testosterone that will cause many of the above symptoms. There are certain herbs that will reduce this enzyme and therefore conversion to the more harmful version of testosterone.

  • Consume spearmint tea

  • Consume red reishi mushroom

  • Consume licorice

  • Consume green tea

  • Consume black cohosh

  • Consume chaste tree

  • Consume saw palmetto

  • Consume a DIM supplement

Cause #2: Androgens not converting to estrogens

There is another type of enzyme (protein that converts things in the body) that converts androgens to estrogen. This enzyme is blocked due to consuming foods with glyphosate. Glyphosate is a chemical herbicide contained in many non-organic foods. Therefore consuming organic foods should help with this situation.

  • Avoid GMO foods

  • Consume organic foods

Cause #2: High insulin

If you consume a diet that includes a lot of refined carbs and sugar they can spike your insulin; insulin goes high to counteract the carbs and sugar and lower the blood sugar in your body. Insulin in itself will cause androgens to rise. The problem is that if you are on this type of diet for a long time, it can cause insulin to be 7 to 10 times higher than normal levels.

  • Avoid refined carbs and sugar

  • Avoid snacking

  • Do the Healthy Keto® diet

  • Do an intermittent fasting plan

Cause #3: High amounts of stress

Too much stress can also cause overproduction of androgens by your adrenals (stress- regulating glands). This is because adrenals produce androgens as well as stress-regulating hormones and if they are working too much, trying to handle a lot of stress, they can overproduce the androgens too.
