Symptoms, conditions and causes

What are the reasons for sinus congestion?

Sinus congestion can create a lot of discomfort and breathing difficulties. There are simple remedies for the known causes of this condition.

Symptoms:

  • Stuffy nose

  • Runny nose (mucus)

  • Headache

  • Allergy-like symptoms

  • Breathing difficulties

Cause #1: Fungus

The most common fungus that causes sinus congestion is called Aspergillus Fumigatis. If you don’t have enough friendly bacteria in the body, for example after a history of taking antibiotics, the result can be an overgrowth of this fungus. One thing to know is that fungus uses refined carbs, sugar and iron as food.

Cause #2: Rhinovirus

Rhinovirus is a type of viral infection that can affect your sinuses and can keep them inflamed and congested. Most of the time it is seasonal; however, it can be chronic.

Cause #3: Allergies

An allergy means intolerance to certain types of foods or elements from outside your body, like pollen. Your body overreacts to the thing causing the allergy, creating a lot of symptoms like inflammation, irritation, sinus congestion etc. The best way to see if you have an allergy: look back and see what you ate or were exposed to just before the sinus congestion. Chances are there was an unusual type of food or environmental substance that you were exposed to.
