What is a ketone?

A ketone is an energy unit that the body uses, taken from your own fat reserves. It is a preferred fuel source, the alternative to glucose (blood sugar). Preferred: in other words, your brain and heart love it. When you are on a ketogenic diet, your body switches from using sugar as energy to breaking down and absorbing its own fat.
