What is good food for a breastfeeding mama?

Key foods for the breastfeeding mother:

  • Shellfish

  • Fish (wild-caught is preferred)

  • Cod liver oil

  • Organ meats

  • Nutritional yeast (unfortified)

  • Eggs

  • Big salads

Avoid GMO foods and do your best to get organic food.

Do not go low-fat because you need essential fatty acids like DHA.

A few reminders before introducing foods to babies:

  • The digestive system of babies is not developed yet, so you have to go slowly and watch for any reactions.

  • Babies don’t yet have the normal flora in the gut.

  • An infant produces a good amount of lactase, an enzyme to break down lactose or milk sugar.

  • Avoid cereal and grains because they are going to block minerals and many are refined carbohydrates.
