What do I do if I can't digest collagen?

When you eat protein, your body is supposed to turn the protein into collagen. But, it takes a really acidic stomach to complete this process. As you age, the pH of your stomach goes down. When you’re between 60 and 70 years old, you basically have only about 25% of the stomach acid that you had when you were 20 years old.

The inability to digest collagen can lead to a wide range of issues, from losing elasticity to high blood pressure. The pH in the stomach is what triggers the enzymes that break down food and turn it into collagen.

If you have any type of collagen issues and digestion issues, you may want to start by fixing the digestion issues. Once you fix your digestion, you should be able to absorb collagen much easier. Taking apple cider vinegar and betaine hydrochloride with your meals may help fix your pH.
