Natural Vitamin B1+

Why are the forms of folate and B12 not listed for Natural B1+ but they are in other products?

The folate and B12 in Natural B1+ come from the product’s B vitamin complex blend, which includes broccoli (flower and stem), carrot (root), spinach (leaf), sunflower seed, and chlorella. This natural, whole-food blend has not been tested to confirm the exact individual forms of each B vitamin. Based on what is known about these foods, the blend likely provides folate mainly in its natural, bioactive form, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (methylfolate), along with smaller amounts of other folates like tetrahydrofolate and 5-formyltetrahydrofolate. Chlorella is unique in that it contains vitamin B12, most commonly as methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, which are both active and usable by the human body. In trace amounts, hydroxocobalamin or cyanocobalamin may also occur, as well as pseudocobalamin (an inactive analog), though the balance depends on the chlorella strain and cultivation.

In contrast, many of our other products, such as our Hair Formula, list methylated folate (5-methyltetrahydrofolate-calcium) and methylcobalamin on the label because these are isolated, specific forms of B vitamins that are intentionally added to that product’s formulation. With Natural B1+, the folate and B12 are food-sourced within the blend, which is why their exact forms are not specified on the label.

It’s also important to note that Natural B1+ does not contain folic acid, and there is no added cyanocobalamin beyond what may be naturally occurring, which would be a minimal amount. The naturally occurring folates and methylcobalamin present in the blend are bioactive and directly supportive of normal methylation pathways in the body. If someone does have methylation concerns, these natural forms are generally considered supportive, without the potential issues linked to synthetic folic acid in people with MTHFR variants.
