Why is acacia gum used in Cod Liver Oil Capsules?

The acacia gum has always been in the product.  New labeling regulations require us to list the ingredients.  The cod liver oil is sprayed onto the acacia gum, which then allows the product to be made into a powder.  We have chosen this ingredient as it is Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS). The alternative binding agent is maltodextrin, which we refuse to use in our products.
