Keto Diet Facts & Tips

Why is my face getting swollen?

Puffy eyes and facial swelling are often caused by edema, an excess of fluid in the body. This fluid retention can affect various areas including the heart, liver, cells, and ankles. While edema can have various causes, including idiopathic and pathogenic factors, a high-carbohydrate diet is a common culprit. High-carb diets contribute to inflammation, salt retention, and potassium depletion, all of which can lead to fluid retention. To reduce puffy eyes and facial swelling, consider reducing carbohydrate intake to below 50g per day (ideally 20g) and increasing consumption of potassium-rich foods, such as vegetables.
