Intermittent Fasting

Will Keto work without intermittent fasting?

The answer is “not very well”. There are three main things that raise insulin and block ketosis:

(1) a high-carb diet
(2) a high-protein diet (especially lean protein)
(3) eating in general

So many people actually eat because of tradition, for social reasons or out of habit. Anytime you eat anything containing significant calories, insulin will also be triggered to a certain degree. This is why snacking is terrible for keto. Even three meals a day can slow your progress, especially if you have a slow metabolism.

That’s why Dr. Berg recommends both keto and intermittent fasting. Keto and intermittent fasting are two equally important tools to help you get healthier, lose weight, and sustain both.

Here’s some good advice: when you are not hungry, don’t eat. You can start gradually, possibly eating 3 meals a day with no snacking, then 2 meals, then one meal a day. This will allow for your body to burn your own body fat as fuel.
